In line with Alma Ata Declaration of 1978 and World Health Organization’s Goal of ‘health for all’ Taraqee’s health program’s primary focus is on the Primary Health Care. The Primary Health Care, often abbreviated as "PHC" and defined as "essential health care based on practical, scientifically sound and socially acceptable methods and technology made universally accessible to individuals and families in the community through their full participation and at a cost that the community and the country can afford to maintain at every stage of their development in the spirit of self-reliance and self-determination" has been adopted as a guiding doctrine by TF.
Of the eight Millennium Goals, the two specifically concerned with improving the health of women and children (MDG 4&5) are furthest from being achieved globally; Baluchistan is no exception in that regard. TF health program paid specific attention to the women and children’s health needs to contribute its share to achieving the said SDG targets in Pakistan.
We have taken our agenda of inclusive development a step forward by designing and implementing disability specific interventions both under health and education programs. The interventions are still at the project level and have not developed into a fully-fledged program.
Even though the interventions are placed under health program, but we understand that the disability is a universal phenomenon and it doesn’t make a distinct group in our society.
Every human being experiences some level of disability for instance during childhood and old age and sickness. Our philosophy about disability is grounded in the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) and represents an evolution in the concept of disability measurement.
It explores disability as an outcome of interactions between a person with a health condition and various environmental and personal factors, rather than focusing only on a person’s health or impairments.
